Description

Scapular necklaces, from the Latin "Scapulae," or shoulder, have long been used as both a reminder of devotion, and a symbol of protection for the wearer. Their use dates back to the 7th century, when monastic monks wore them in the form of lengths of cloth suspended from their shoulders down their robes. Recommended to be worn constantly, they came with a set of promises for the faithful, and were often associated with a particular saint and special powers (!) for the wearer.

Cast in 14k gold and suspended on the most delicate of chains, this medal is devoted to the most famous of the small scapular saints, the Madonna. So delicate you almost miss it, it's like a tiny, prayerful secret. Designed, like its ancient ancestor, to be worn often, this is definitely the perfect wear-every-day, never-take-it-off piece, and is adjustable from 15" (just below the clavicle) to a more regular 17" in length. Custom lengths are also available, for inquiries, send us a message.

  • Medal measures approximately 12.5mm x 8.5mm.
  • Handmade in NYC. Please allow 4-6 weeks production time, or contact us directly if you need an order by a certain date.
