Known as one of the great mystics of the 13th century, St. Lutgardis is known as a great healer, who Christ appeared to in a vision where he revealed his wounds to her. She committed herself to convent life soon after, and is known as the first female to experience stigmata, which she exhibited regularly along with other experiences of religious ecstacy. The patron saint of sight, of healing and prophecy, she went blind in her later years, but saw it as a wonderful gift because she was no longer distracted by the world around her.
