Description
A beautiful late Victorian locket cased in 9k gold bears the word "Souvenir" in embossed letters. With intact original glass inside the reverse compartment, it's a wonder place to store a loved ones portrait, lock of hair or other memento.
HISTORY
The Victorians were famously sentimental, and to them, the word "Souvenir" held a different connotation than it does today. Closer to it's french route, it meant "remember me," and was used often in commemorative and mourning jewelry for a friend or loved one. Victorians loved to buy pieces of jewelry to mark an event, or with hidden meaning, and this locket would have been no exception.
