A gorgeous Georgian-era black dot paste band sparkles with the brilliance of diamonds.

HISTORY

Georgian paste refers to hand-faceted glass, and dates back to as early as 1730. Often set against reflective foil, it is typically seen in silver cut-down collet settings like these. The "black dot" refers to a hand-painted mark made on the underside of the stone, meant to simulate a culet and add depth to the stone, and was often the hallmark of very high quality pieces. Paste became hugely popular around the mid-to-late 18th century, eventually elevated to an art form of its own and even worn by Marie Antoinette herself!
