Description

Born with a mark of the cross on his chest, St. Roch (also known as Rocco) was known as a healer throughout his life, performing many miraculous acts of ministering to the sick until he eventually fell ill himself. He was expelled from the town and withdrew into the forest, where he would have perished if it weren't for a dog belonging to a nobleman, who supplied him with bread and licked his wounds, healing them. Known as the plague saint, he is considered to be the patron against illness and the protector of dogs.
