Description

An unusual clover pin in embossed green and rose gold, marked with the numbers "89" in platinum for the year 1889, and adorned with a sparkling, chunky old mine cut diamond is transformed here into a necklace when suspended from a chain.

HISTORY

Like the lucky horseshoe, the clover leaf was one of the most popular motifs used during the Victorian era to represent and help attract good fortune. Worn as a superstitious practice to help ward off even spirits and other misfortune, it was also though to bring the wearer success and other blessings.

Like the clover, commemorative jewelry was also popular in the Victorian era. Pieces embossed with initials, memorable dates and the names of places with special significance were widely worn and enjoyed. The Victorians were great sentimentalists and loved buying pieces of jewelry to commemorate an event, or with hidden meaning, and this piece would have been no exception.
